ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
The France midfielder had just returned from holiday following his involvement in Euro 2024 but was injured during training for Real. The club confirmed the unfortunate incident, saying: "Following tests carried out today on our player Eduardo Camavinga, he has been diagnosed with a sprained internal collateral ligament in his left knee. His recovery will be monitored." The 21-year-old took to social media to update concerned fans ahead of the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta.

WHAT CAMAVINGA SAID
On X, Camavinga wrote: "Deeply disappointed to pick up this injury and miss the start of the season. I will work hard to be back soon. Thank you for all the messages of support over the last few hours and also want to wish the team well for the game tonight!"

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Madrid are losing one of their most versatile and reliable players in Camavinga. The 21-cap international played a starring role for Los Blancos during their La Liga and Champions League double run last term. His absence will hinder head coach Carlo Ancelotti's hopes of retaining both crowns.

WHAT NEXT FOR CAMAVINGA AND REAL MADRID?
It is unclear how long Camavinga will be out for but he certainly will not be involved in Madrid's Super Cup clash against Europa League winners Atalanta on Wednesday evening. Los Blancos will then start their La Liga campaign away to Mallorca on Sunday night.
