Manchester United’s Carabao Cup clash with Burton on Wednesday night represents an opportunity for Jose Mourinho to rotate a squad that has consistently convinced in the Premier League this season.

Key players will certainly feel they’ve earned a rest; the Portuguese’s side have claimed 13 points from a possible 15 in the Premier League, recorded three 4-0 victories and conceded just two goals.

While Mourinho does have a variety of experienced players to choose from – United’s first-team squad boasts some of the best depth in Europe – the early stages of the League Cup are traditionally seen as a chance to give promising youngsters the opportunity to impress.

Mourinho’s record of developing young players isn’t the strongest but he appears to be a fan of 19-year-old Axel Tuanzebe, issuing him five appearances across all competitions last season – including four outings in the Premier League.
