It was a frantic opening night in the Champions League. Manchester United’s first game back in the competition ended in complete and utter disaster as they were beaten 2-1 away to PSV Eindhoven.

It wasn’t simply the defeat that will hurt for United, however. The horrific injury to Luke Shaw – a double fracture to his leg according to Louis Van Gaal in his post-match interview – will not only rule him out for a long time, but it totally changed the game.

Although United went on to open the scoring after Shaw’s departure in an oxygen mask, they looked like a team shocked by what had happened to their friend and team mate. PSV went on to score twice – once from a set play and their winner came from a counter attack as United pushed forward in search of a winner of their own. A smash and grab in a devastating night for United.

Manchester City, meanwhile, had a terrible night of their own. Leading at home to their biggest group rivals Juventus, City surrendered their lead and succumbed to another disappointing European night.

So here’s a look at some of the best tweets following last night’s action…
